I am an associate professor at the School of Information Studies (QCSIS), Queens College, the City University of New York. Before joining the faculty I was a public and academic librarian for more than twenty five years. I completed my PhD at SUNY, the University at Buffalo, where my dissertation research looked at how youth services librarians understand libraries and homelessness as symbolic objects. In my current role at the QCSIS, I coordinate the Advanced Certificate in Youth Services and teach courses on library services, research, and children's and young adult literature. I have more than twenty years’ experience facilitating reading and library programs with families and adults in temporary housing and am currently working with guests at two drop-in day resource centers to explore their reading practices and develop on-site libraries and reading programs.
