About me
Dr. Valerie Byrd Fort is a Teaching Assistant Professor in the School of Information Science at the University of South Carolina. A former elementary school librarian, her work focuses on diverse children’s literature, school libraries and intellectual freedom. Byrd Fort is a recipient of the 2026 I Love My Librarian Award.
