Marc Aronson won the inaugural Sibert medal for Sir Walter Ralegh and the Quest for El Dorado; he also edited an initial honor book, Judd Winick’s Pedro and Me, and the 10th medal winner, Tanya Lee Stone’s Almost Astronauts. The author or co-author of over 25 highly honored nonfiction books, including Sugar Changed the World, he has a PhD in cultural history from NYU and is an Associate Professor in the Rutgers library school. Aronson's most recent book, co-authored with John S. Mead, is Reading the Bones: Homo Naledi and the Mysteries of Human Evolution (FSG, 2026)
